This was written as a poem after my common-law and I broke up. He was some piece of work, but that relationship helped me set boundaries, and was just one more step in my 20's that helped me learn how to love myself.

Everything But Me
We lived out on the water in a house that I bought, got you a camero that just sat out on the lot. Dressed you in designer jeans,
took you out on shopping sprees,
let you drive the good truck and left the beater for me.
I thought the way to love you was to give you all I had,
well you gladly took the good life while you left me broke and sad. Even though my love was blind, now I plainly see,
you took, you stole, and now you have everything but me.
Dear James thanks for the lesson now, your gone, I guess it’s for the best. Chin-up, must be on my way.
This heart has a confession,
it’s coldest when you loose the passion,
you were just one long bad day.
And you took everything, everything but me.
Brought in all the money while you went out and played,
did the dirty work, the cooking, made sure the beds were all made. Never should have put you on the deed, your loving stopped day. When I held the letter in my hands I knew you planned it all that way!
